A 1975 graduate of Upper
Sandusky High School, Roxie Karg was a
three-sport athlete and one of two women to be a 12-time letter winner at
Ohio Northern University. She went on to be a successful coach with the
Rams.
Karg
attended USHS just as girls sports were being
resurrected there. She lettered three times in track and field, holding the
school record in the shot put and discus for many years and qualifying for
the state meet in both events. She earned a team award for most points in
field events.
In volleyball, Karg was a three-year letter winner, earning the team
MVP award, and she lettered twice in basketball. On the hardwood, she won
the offensive player award, was part of a Northern Ohio League championship
team and long held the record for most points in a game with 34 until it
was broken by USHS 2001 graduate Lyndsey DeWitt.
At ONU, she lettered four times
each in fastpitch softball, basketball and volleyball. She was part of an
open division state championship team in softball for the Polar Bears.
After graduating from ONU, Karg served as a junior varsity volleyball and
basketball coach until 1987. One of her JV girls
basketball teams finished undefeated, and she served as an assistant coach
when the Lady Rams reached the state tournament in 1981.
Karg
also has been a volunteer coach for youth slowpitch
softball for many years.
Retired
from Brindgestone IPM as plant manager, Karg currently serves on Upper Sandusky city council.
