Krista
Sand Haubert 2024 WSHF inductee A 1983 graduate of Wynford High School,
Haubert was the first Royals girl to win an individual state championship,
winning the Class A state long jump as a senior. She went on to compete at
Malone College. Haubert jumped 18 feet, 1/4 inch, the
second-longest jump ever in class A at that point, to win the state
championship in 1983. She took first place in the long jump in every meet
except one during her senior year. She qualified to state in four events,
also placing fifth in the 100-meter low hurdles and sixth as part of the
800-meter relay team. The 400-meter relay also qualified for state but did not
place. Points in those events allowed the Royals to place sixth in the state
as a team. While at Wynford, Haubert set a new
standard in the long jump and the 100-meter hurdles by the time she was 15
and wound up with the North Central Conference records in both events. She
qualified for state three out of four years. She was the team MVP, the
Telegraph Forum performer of the year and finished as Wynford’s all-time
career point leader in girls track and field. While at Wynford, Haubert also was a
cheerleader for four years, earning two varsity letters. She continued her
track career for three years at Malone, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts
in Communications. She was named to the Wynford Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009
and the Crawford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. Haubert lives in North Canton with her
husband, Doug. They have four children, Cole, Chase, Cord and Kate. She is
employed by Portage Lakes Career Center as the community relations
coordinator.
