The Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame inducted its 12th class April 20, 2024, in a banquet at the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds.

            Krista (Sand) Haubert was the Class A long jump champion in 1983 with a jump of 18 feet, 1/4 inch. She also placed fifth in the state in the 100-meter hurdles and was part of the sixth-place 800-meter relay team and the state-qualifying 400-meter relay team. She then competed in track for three years at Malone College.

 

            While at Carey, Tom Yingling was an All-Ohio linebacker and school’s career tackle leader who also played basketball and baseball. He went on to be a two-time all-conference defensive back at Ohio Wesleyan University and then served as a successful head baseball and assistant football coach at Jackson Local Schools.

 

            Emily (Bastel) Glaser is a former professional golfer who now serves as the head coach of the University of Florida women’s golf team. She was a three-time All-Ohioan for the Rams, then went on to be a four-time All-Big Ten selection and a one-time All-American at Michigan State University. She spent three years on the Futures Tour and three years on the LPGA Tour and has been coaching since 2009, including as the head coach of the Gators since 2012.

 

            Chad Sowers was the Division III 189-pound state wrestling champion in 2002 and also placed second at 215 pounds in 2003 and third at 189 pounds in 2001. He was a four-time Midland Athletic League and sectional champion and finished with a 166-19 career record. Sowers also excelled in football, earning All-Ohio first-team honors in 2002 when he was the MAL co-defensive player of the year.

 

            A 1954 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School and lifelong resident of Upper Sandusky, Rosemary Austin is a seven-time All-American senior softball player who was inducted in 2018 into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame. She has won multiple other softball awards and is a Senior Olympic gold medalist. She continues to play softball across the country to this day at 87 years old.

 

            John Wolfe was a standout football player at Riverdale, leading them to an 8-2 record and second-place finish in the North Central Conference his senior year. That season, he earned All-NCC first-team honors as a running back, leading the league and breaking the school record with 1,281 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a linebacker, he led the league with 192 tackles. Wolfe earned All-Ohio honorable mention as a junior and special mention as a senior.

 

            The 1982 Upper Sandusky girls basketball team finished as state semifinalists, finishing the season with a 22-4 record. They lost to state No. 1 Cincinnati Reading 49-36 in the title game, which set the record for largest attendance at a girls state semifinal game with 5,985 fans. The Rams’ seniors that year had a combined 44-7 record their final two years with two Northern Ohio League and two district championships.
