Dan Bogard

2017 WSHF inductee

Dan Bogard, a 1956 graduate of Sycamore High School, was a multi-sport athlete for the Wildcats, having lettered 12 times during his high school career - four each in baseball, track and field and basketball.

Bogard was the first baseman on the 1954 Class B state runner-up team and again the following season when the Wildcats advanced to the final four for a second time. As a member of the track team, he threw the discus and shot put all four years of high school.

But Bogard's strength was on the basketball court. During his career, he amassed 2,135 points, which at the time was the third-highest career total in the state of Ohio. His career scoring total and his record of 51 points in a game (against Wharton) stood as the Wyandot County record for 51 years. He holds 13 individual scoring records for Sycamore High School, scored more than 40 points in a game five times and was named an honorable mention All-Ohioan his senior year. He also is the only Wyandot County athlete to appear in more than 100 basketball games during his high school career.

Along with his older brothers, Virg and Bill, and younger brother, Jerry, the foursome totaled 5,467 points during their hardwood days for the Wildcats.

Bogard had offers to continue his career in college, but instead married his wife of 60 years, Carolyn, and together they have four children: Jill, Jeff, Lori and Todd. Bogard retired from the Timken Company of Bucyrus after 40 years and he and Carolyn enjoy traveling.
