Walcutt 2019 WSHF inductee Walcutt was a standout athlete at Harpster
High School, graduating in 1954, and went on to be a 1,000-point basketball
scorer at Findlay College. He averaged 18.3 points per game during his final
three years at Findlay, leading the team to a an 18-4 record his senior year.
He twice earned first-team all-conference honors. He served for decades
afterward as an educator. In his career at Harpster, Walcutt finished
with 817 points, including 476 his 1953-54 season, which rank as second-best
in a single season in school history. He scored a then single-game school
record 35 points in a game against Wharton in December 1953, with that mark
finishing as second-best in school history. He also had games in his career
of 31 points and 29 points (twice). He averaged 15.6 points per game as a
junior and 22.3 per game as a senior. He also was involved with baseball and
track and field at Harpster. Walcutt was a four-year letter winner at
Findlay College and was team captain his junior and senior seasons. His
senior-season team averaged 91.8 points per game. He was inducted into the
University of Findlay Hall of Fame in 1978. After college, Walcutt coached Salem High
School’s basketball team in its final two seasons in 1959-60 and 1960-61 and
became a longtime educator, including serving as a guidance counselor at
Upper Sandusky High School. He was a member on the Kiwanis Club board,
including as president, and was active in the United Way and the Sandusky
Valley Mental Health Center Board. He is retired and lives in the village of
Florence in Erie County.
