Bell 2013 WSHF inductee Bell is a member of the Upper
Sandusky High School and Ohio Northern University Hall of Fames. She is most well-known for her
34-year coaching career at the helm of the Upper Sandusky girls
basketball program but also coached softball and track and field briefly at
USHS and was a basketball and softball player at Ohio Northern. As coach of the Rams, Bell finished
with a 538-207 record from 1973-2008. Her teams won 10 Northern Ohio League,
21 sectional, eight district and three regional championships. The 1995-96 team finished as the state runner-up, losing the
championship game in overtime. Upper Sandusky lost in the state semifinals in
1982 and 1991. Under her guidance, the Rams had only two losing seasons and
won 20 or more games nine times. Bell was the District 6 Coach of the
Year eight times, coached in the North-South Game in 1983 and was the state
coach of the year in 2002. In
Bell’s four years as USHS softball coach, the Rams won a district
championship, and she led the school to an NOL title once during her three
years as track and field coach, taking athletes to the state meet all three
years. With the Polar Bears, Bell lettered
in softball four times. ONU won the state championship in the first year of
its inception by beating Ohio State in the finals in 1973. She lettered three
times in basketball, with the Polar Bears losing to Ohio State in the state
semifinals one season. In addition, Bell played for 15
years with the Celina Suns fast-pitch softball team in the Michigan/Ohio
League, winning four state championships, three regional championships and
three times playing in the national tournament. |
